Labour candidate raises fears as new figures show huge police cuts for Wetherby area

Labour's Veronica King has raised concerns about the impact of police cuts in Wetherby, as new figures show 958 police officer posts have been cut from West Yorkshire since 2010.

In stark contrast, just over the border from Wetherby in North Yorkshire, only 82 posts have been lost in the same period.

Veronica King, Labour's Parliamentary Candidate for Elmet & Rothwell said:

"Residents of Wetherby will rightly be concerned that we are losing so many police officers from our local area, with Tory imposed police cuts hitting us ten times harder here just a few miles away in North Yorkshire. People in Wetherby have exactly the same right as people in Harrogate to feel safe in their own communities.

“The first duty of any government is the safety and security of its citizens. Alec Shelbrooke's Conservative party are failing that duty. We will not. With our zero-based review, Labour has already identified there are savings to be made to protect front-line officers, starting with saving 1100 under threat in 2015/2016.”
