Leeds West MP and Shadow Chief Sectetary to the Treasury Rachel Reeves has hit out at the failed approach of the Government as unemployment in Yorkshire and the Humber hit a 15 year high.
This region saw the biggest increase in the UK in its jobless figures with 266,000 now out of work - a 25,000 increase on three months ago.
Rachel Reeves said:
"These are deeply concerning unemployment statistics for our region. The double-dip recession made in Downing Street is engulfing Yorkshire and more than a quarter of a million people here are paying the price finding themselves out of work. It's simply not good enough. How many more months do we have to watch these figures climb and the void between Yorkshire and areas like London and the South East grow while this Government looks on and does nothing?
" We need a plan B now to kickstart our economy and bring job opportunities to Yorkshire's young. Unemployment is not just a short term problem, it cases long term damage too. Labour would be taxing bankers' bonuses to create 100,000 jobs for young people."
