Commons debates future of steel industry

A debate on the future of the British steel industry is taking place in the Commons today, with MPs from across Yorkshire and Humber expected to contribute.

Angela Eagle MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, commenting ahead of the debate, said:

“The steel industry is of vital strategic importance to the UK economy, but it is facing clear and present dangers which show no signs of abating.

“Urgent action from the Government is required now to address high energy prices, unfair and anti-competitive practices from some international producers, as well as additional export and procurement support.

“Steel workers and their families don’t want special treatment, but the government do have a responsibility to ensure a level playing field, and Labour is calling on the Government to convene a top-level summit to seek a meaningful and urgent solution to the crisis.”

We need to find out what are the options for these hard working people? also make certain they are treated with the respect they have not only earned, but have a right to be and kept fully informed of all processes which involve them.
