Labour members in Colne Valley have selected Linthwaite small business owner Bin Joshi Barr to be the Party's parliamentary candidate at the next election.
Bin was the emphatic victor in the hustings in Honley on Saturday morning, picking up more than three quarters of the votes cast and winning on the first round of the ballot.
Born in Huddersfield, Bin grew up and went to school in Colne Valley, attending Moorend High School.
She now runs award-winning healthier options chippy Batter Sea on Manchester Road in Linthwaite.
Bin volunteers for Meals on Wheels in Slaithwaite and is a member of Keep Slaithwaite Special.
She's only too aware of damaging cuts to local services including reduced opening hours at her local Sure Start children's centre, as she and her husband are parents of a two-year-old son.
Bin immediately put the NHS at the top of her priority list - taking members straight from the selection hustings in Honley to Brockholes Carnival where she led a campaigning session celebrating the health service's 65th birthday.
Speaking after being selected at a hustings in Honley, Bin Joshi Barr said:
"I'm humbled to have been selected by members to be Labour's candidate in my home constituency.
"I'm proud to call the Colne Valley my home - it is one of the most beautiful parts of our country but we have been hit hard by this Tory-led government.
"I'm angry at this government's attempt to privatise our health service. While ambulances queue outside A&E departments and nurse numbers plummet, this government spent £3bn on an ideological, damaging top-down reorganisation of our NHS.
"Jason McCartney voted for that, just as he voted for the bedroom tax and a tax cut for millionaires at the same as cutting child benefit and maternity pay, so he must be held to account.
"Colne Valley deserves better - we need a local MP who is actually prepared to stick up for the Colne Valley, not just Tory heartlands in the South. I look forward to spending the next two years meeting people across the constituency to win your trust and support by proving I'll always be on your side."
