Following the success of the 2013 future candidates programme, we are pleased to announce the launch of the future candidate’s programme for 2014 and hope you would consider taking part.
Bradford is a city and district with a proud history, not least in the formation of the Labour Party itself. Bradford Labour has many members energetically and determinedly working to bring about real change to improve people’s lives. People just like you.
As we continue to build our party, one of the keys to success will be having a wider spectrum of people standing as candidates to become Labour councillors. If we are to engage in, and speak for, the communities we seek to serve, it’s essential our elected representatives are people rooted in those communities.
Many of the members, trade unionists and activists in Bradford who want to bring about real change have never considered standing for election themselves – but there’s no reason why they can’t, and our Future Candidates Programme aims to provide the skills, knowledge and confidence to make the decision to become a Labour Party candidate yourself.
Those accepted to the programme will learn how to engage with, and organise in communities to affect real change in their area; they’ll learn about the role of a councillor and what can be expected of them if they win; and they will pick up handy tips on how to get selected to be a candidate.
