Alan Billings, has reaffirmed his long-standing pledge to donate half his salary to local charities supporting victims if he wins the PCC by-election.
"I have said for a long time that I don't think it's right that the Police and Crime Commissioner should earn more than South Yorkshire's hard-working council leaders - the salary seems excessive to me.
"So I will take just half the salary and will donate the other half to South Yorkshire charities providing support to victims of crime.
"This will bring what I earn broadly into line with South Yorkshire's council leaders, and will mean the rest is being put towards good causes helping the people in South Yorkshire who need it most.
"In addition, I will commit to reducing the costs of the office of the Police and Crime Commissioner if I'm elected, by asking an auditor to report back to me on where savings can be made.
“I believe people in public offices need to show by example that they believe in public service and are not motivated simply by money. We should set a strong moral example."
